About BlissPhil …

I like to think I am full of courage and determination but I know that sometimes I am petrified of my own shadow. I prefer joy to sorrow, but don’t always succeed with the right balance between the two. I love to laugh out loud from the bottom of my belly and I cry at the drop of a hat. I am a loner and a social animal. I am a thinker, perhaps a little too much. I am fully human, perfectly flawed and a follower of Jesus, which makes me open to loving all…

I am currently a probationer minister with the Methodist Church of South Africa, based at the Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary and although I recognize the flaws of the institution that is the church, I also recognize that she is a powerful vehicle for ushering in the Kingdom of God…

What I believe:

I believe that when Jesus said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life’, (John 14:6)  that he meant that we must live as he lived because that is the way to life and to truth and to love. He invites us all to live as he lived, to love as he loved, to surrender as he surrendered, to be prepared to lose our lives for the sake of something much better and a whole lot bigger than we could ever have imagined.

I  believe Jesus when he says ‘I came that they may have life and have it to the full’ (John 10:10) and that that life is messy and painful and difficult and colourful and bold and exciting and blissful – a full life is a life full of everything, both good and bad, light and dark, happiness and sadness and then ‘someness’ in between …

I  believe Jesus died on a cross because we didn’t recognise him or his message, but that in his death we can find meaning, meaning that shows us that we are free, that we are reconciled to God. Jesus came to throw open the gates of heaven, ‘that all may go in’, he died with his arms and his heart wide, wide open. He came to transform the world through his love and he invites us to transform the world with our love too. Simple, but not easy.

I believe heaven and hell exist right now, at this time and that our actions take us closer to either one or the other with every, everyday choice that we make, and I believe that those choices no matter how small, have powerful impacts on the world around us both seen and unseen.

Choose life God invites, choose heaven, choose me, choose my way…

I believe my journey is about being courageous, living authentically, loving the people that I come into contact with. I am not there yet – but I am on the road, sharing the sights as I go (Acts 26:17).

Oh! And I am a prolific dreamer, which is another motivation for this site, to learn and to connect with other dreamers of the faith …

Thanks for stopping by…
